The exquisite Manueline styled cloisters of the Jeronimos Monastery in Belem. This building symbolises the exuberance of the Age of the Discoveries and was built to celebrate the safe return of Vasco da Gama from his first voyage to India in 1498.
Construction began in 1502 and the monastery is both the first and probably greatest example of Manueline architecture.
