This lovely stretch of fine golden sand is located on a slightly quieter section of the Algarve coast between Tavira and the Spanish border (less than 2km away). That is not to say the beach isn't popular and has somehow managed to escape the tourist radar. You will still find straw parasols and sun loungers a-plenty here but the beach does still retain something of an unspoilt, if not a little upmarket air to it.
Unlike many of the algarve's beaches further west there is very little in the way of development behind the beach. Just a couple of cafes and restaurants, and these are partly obscured by the trees and dunes. Whilst a little on the expensive side these do offer good food and a great place to admire the view and watch the world go by.
As the tide goes out at Praia Verde there are often small pools of water left behind in the sand. These super-warm paddling pools are immensely popular with kids and this is a good family beach in general.
Praia Verde translates as "green beach"; this could refer to one of two things. Firstly, the beach is backed by gently sloping grassy dunes beyond which are pine trees. Alternatively this could refer to the seaweed that frequently washes up on the beach out of season. Whichever you decide on Praia Verde is about as close to nature you will get along the Algarve coast with its clear sea and host of plant life in the dunes behind.
