Praia das Avencas
Parede beach is a small but pleasant stretch of sand which is often overlooked. Located midway between Carcavelos beach and Sao Pedro do Estoril it is tucked away below the main "Marginal" coast road that runs from Lisbon to Cascais. This makes it easy enough to get to and there are car parks at both ends of the beach. Access from the town or train station is via an underpass that leads directly to the beach.
The word Parede is Portuguese for wall which is quite fitting as the beach is backed by a high wall. This offers shelter from the wind turning the beach into a veritable sun-trap. There is also a raised esplanade running the length of the beach which leads to a cafe at one end.
Parede is a popular fishing spot and I've often seen anglers casting off here.
It is also an occasional surf spot and there can be quite a powerful right hand wave here, but it is fickle and the bottom is rocky.
At higher tides the beach all but disappears but there are still a few spots to perch.
