Very peculiar apartment in the heart of Bairro Alto. It is a traditional "cave", an underground apartment where people who could not afford better housing used to live (some still do). The entrance door is much shorter than normal (around 1.5 mt), so you need to bend in order to enter and take 3 steps down. When there's humidity in the air, the apartment is humid too, and the dehumidifier must be kept on. There is a small window in the bedroom, at street level. It is safe to open it (there is an iron gate installed), but the street outside is busy with cars and people all day and night. Bairro Alto, a party area. Expect bars, music, drunk people and loud noises. We provide earplugs. The bathroom doesn't have a door, only a curtain. Book this apartment only if: you have no mobility issues; you don't mind noise; you are young at heart; you don't mind being underground; you don't mind humidity; you are not claustrophobic; you are looking for a different experience!

The house is in the heart of Lisbon. Bairro Alto is a historical neighborhood, just steps away from many touristic and must-see elements of the city. For this reason, on weekends the street can get a bit busy, but no better excuse to go for a drink in the most sought-of neighborhood of Lisbon, right?
