The hotel grounds (vineyard) are serene, the room was spacious and beautiful, staff were very friendly. The highlight of our stay was the dinner, we took the degustation menu with wine pairing. A bit pricey in local terms, but very tasty and generous in wine (a whole bottle was provided for each dish...)

Very active friendly. 4km of beautiful walking trails along each side of the river (total of 8km). The 41km bike path Ecopista was stunning. Mountains are just a few km away with endless trails for biking and hiking.

A beautiful city with a really interesting central area.
A beautiful city with a really interesting central area. There is a waterpark outside the town and plenty of shopping at reasonable prices in the town. You can take a pedal boat on the river and the local government appear to be investing in the river aspect.
The cathedral is a must see and has recently been renovated. Nearby is the museum/art gallery.
There are some really lovely cafés and restaurants with terraces looking out on the river serving traditional pasteries and food.
I would definitely go back for a couple of nights again.

We chose this town for a one-night stay between a house rental in the Minho area and a flight out of Porto. It was a bit of a random choice based on my criteria of a cute and well-priced hotel under an hour from the airport, but the town also has some cool history so we gave it a go.
Upon arrival, we discovered that it was the first night of the town fair! I have been to several fairs in Spain but this was my first in Portugal. It was the same basic vibe - families delighted to see one another, tasty treats from food stands, brightly like rides blaring pop music over the sound of teens screaming. We grabbed ourselves a couple of petite pours of Super Bock and tried Portuguese-style hot dogs, which are packaged in jars or cans and come with lettuce and crispy fried onions; my Chicago-born partner even approved of how good they were! Amarante puts on a good fair, and it takes place along the river so we were able to explore the main streets of town in conjunction with the party.
The only bummer about the fair is that we couldn't get in to see inside of the church, which is of some importance having been built by a saint. I plan to spend more time in Portugal in the coming years, so maybe I will head back to Amarante for an afternoon to take in the monuments.

There always seems to be lots going on.
There always seems to be lots going on. The town tries to cater for a wide range of interests and the surrounding countryside offers good walks and bike rides. Restaurants are good and on the whole value for money. There is a Michelin star restaurant which we didn't try although it it was recommended.
Really great hotel: excellent staff, from reception, the restaurant, the cleaning staff - all went out of their way to give great service and it felt like they really meant it.
Room was beautiful, restaurant was very good for both breakfast and dinner.
Location is enchanting. beautiful village, great things to do in the area and very relaxing.
All of the details were there - just an awesome place!
Hotel deserves it's 5 stars and more, hope we have the opportunity to return!
This guest house is located half an hour's walk from the center of Amarante in a very beautiful area. The house is simply gorgeous, huge and full of interesting antique elements. The landlord is warm-hearted and very nice. We were greeted with wine, cheese and marmalade - it was very pleasant. Breakfast was amazing, very filling and tasty. I’m very grateful for the welcome and kindness, I would like to wish landlords all the best)
Casa do Fontão deserves its highest rating, and can be a destination on its own.
Thoughtfully decorated mansion in a quiet residential neighborhood only 6 min drive to the center of Amarante. We had a spacious bedroom with comfortable bed and huge wardrobe.
From the moment we walked in to the minute we left we felt warmth and welcome of our hosts.
Abundant breakfast with healthy options, welcome drink and more.
Incredible service and a historic house. The host took the time to help us see the house and the history and allowed us a moment of seeing how she grew up. Her grandfather is an accomplished artist and the works displayed throughout the house pay homage to the history. This place is a little piece of magic in Portugal.
Breakfast was simple and perfect and getting to walk the grounds at sunset inspired me.
Peso Village made our visit to the Douro Valley a trip to remember and wonderful o every way! The house with its spacious rooms and indoor pool were so very relaxing, we had a romantic dinner by the fire one night.. I’m so glad we did not stay in Pinhao, but chose Peso Village instead. The day exploring Amarante was lovely.. and the drive to Pinhao was beautiful.
I stayed in about 10 places during my three weeks of travel in Portugal. And, this one was my favorite of all of them! This is an impressive building that happens to be adjacent to a five-star hotel and is across the street from the river. It has several rooms with very nice living and dining areas. I love the décor and the breakfast was fantastic!
Clean new spaces with country charm setting, swimming pool and close to Amarante.
The people were excellent for service, information and activities. We tried and enjoyed the craft beer, berries and the great breakfasts.
It would make a good home base while visiting the Guimarães, Duoro etc. areas.
Day trips to Porto are easy.
The hotel is easy to find and located centrally.
The is a large free car park located nearby.
The reception staff were friendly and efficient.
The room was large, comfortable and well equipped.
There are many good bars and restaurants nearby.
The breakfast was buffet style and good.

The property is a stunning piece of architecture with beautiful furniture pottery, we felt so at home. Gardens are beautiful very private with a pool, views from the hotel are beautiful. Staff were so friendly and helpful, Suzanna was lovely.
The studio apartment was well presented with a pleasant contemporary interior and well equipped. Comfortable, clean and practical within easy access to the charming town center of Amarante and free parking close to the apartment.
The hotel is so stylish and clean. The host is welcoming and kind, open for any help. I can definitely recommend this place! Also, location is wonderful. Amarante is so cute and beautiful town.
Everything. From the location to the hotel, from the staff to the facilities. Will como again. Not easy to park, but well, in the center of an old town, space for parking is very limited.
Historic buildings and grounds with lots of architectural character. Beautiful setting in the hills above Amarante. Modern interiors. Nice breakfast. Overall excellent value.
Nice place in wine yard with a good indoor pool. Good location close to Amarante. The person responsible for the service was very kind and helpful and responded immediately
