Traditional port boats or "barcos rabelos" lined up in front of the Don Luís I Bridge in Porto.
Comissioned in 1879 with the guidlines of:
"construction of a metal bridge over the Douro River, in the place considered the most convenient in front of the city of Porto, for the replacement of the current suspended bridge".
The bridge was designed by engineer Teófilo Seyrig, from the Belgian company Societé de Willebroeck.
The bridge was completed in 1886. The span is 172m and it is 44.6m tall. |
